Ruger was born on our property April 22nd, 2018. He was Baretta's first foal and I was able to watch him be born and love on him almost immediately. I was out in his pen with him every chance that I got. I think he became one of my babies for this reason. To this day, he still looks at me with so much love and want to be with me. Around the time he was a yearling, he got a little bit of attitude that we had to work on, but he learned to respect me. By the time he was two, my first ride out of a pen on him was bareback and in snow. He was absolutely amazing! Anytime he was unsure of doing something, he would stop and look at me as if to ask, “Is this going to be ok?”. He just needed reassurance. I rode him so much at night within the first year that he was rideable that I think I actually rode him more in the dark than in the light by the time he was three. Sometimes, I would go out and sit with him while he was laying down and lift his head up and lay it down in my lap. We would just sit there together like that enjoying each other's company. Ruger is a gelding on the larger side now. He is close to sixteen hands tall and just a big boy all the way around. I have done all of his training myself and love that he has such a good head on his shoulders that both of my kids have been able to ride him for the last couple of years. He is a big lover, but enjoys being feisty sometimes. Ruger really tries for every single one of us (the kids and I) and takes care of us no matter where we are; the hills, the arena, home, etc. I love him so much because when I look into his eyes, I can see his love. I love him so much and love the journey that I have been on with him so far and look forward to the rest of our journey. There will never be another horse in my heart like him.
